Prep Your Home For The Property Inspection

Here are some ideas to get your home prepared for the home inspection:

  • Set aside a day to do your own property inspection and fix simple cosmetic repairs.
  • Remove your belongings that block the furnace, water heater, electrical panel, or other items an inspector will evaluate.

  • Clean out cabinets.
  • Get rid of cobwebs inside and out.
  • Switch out light bulbs making sure each room is well lit.
  • Trim all vegetation around the house to 12″ away from the home.
  • Change out furnace filter.
  • Ensure the water heater is double strapped with approved earthquake strapping.
  • Ensure that smoke alarms are not more than 10 years old.  If there is gas to the home, or an attached garage, make sure to have carbon monoxide detectors within 15′ of the bedrooms.
